When you think of high heels and stilettos, you probably imagine a woman wearing them; but it was quite the opposite this weekend in Rochester.

"It's an international men's march to bring awareness to domestic violence against women," says Jackie Foley, with the Women's Shelter.

It's called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” and that's exactly what dozens of men were doing around Silver Lake Park on Saturday.

"It’s really not to raise funds, it’s more to raise awareness and to get the community talking, like what are these guys doing in women's shoes," says Foley.

Guys like Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem, who sees victims of domestic violence every day.

"We've noticed it’s probably the number one element of the crimes that are committed in Olmsted County," says Ostrem.

While Ostrem helps women all the time in the courtroom, he wanted to do something more.

"It’s very important that we come out and we support the women and we do everything that we can for the women's shelter, because it provides such a great service for the local women here," he says.

"It helps us very much with a resource for us, when our people respond to calls and have to help people, you know, what are we going to do with her to make sure she's going to be safe?" says Olmsted County Sheriff Steve Von Wald

They also want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"It’s terrible. I can't even imagine that, personally and in my family and so and so forth and my friends you know, wouldn't even dream of being physically violent, its just stupid," says Sheriff Von Wald.

"This isn't just a women's issue. Violence against women affects everybody. It affects men, it affects our communities and we really want to bring awareness to this, and get people talking and thinking about domestic violence," says Foley.

Organizers say they hope to hold the event next year at Rochester Fest.
